ACADEMIC STRUCTURE

The core curriculum at Billabong High includes the best of the boards, thus giving a competitive edge to our young children and the leaders of tomorrow. The learning objectives of the IGCSE curriculum are successfully combined with Billabong high International School philosophy of education that will value creative thoughts over rote memory. The curriculum at Billabong high International School is flexible and upgraded with changes in the field of education on an ongoing basis. the prime focus of our curriculum is to innovate teaching-learning methodologies by developing paradigms that are conducive for students. For this, we emphasise on:

INTER DISCIPLINARY APPROACH

No concept is taught in isolation. All concepts are integrated to make the curriculum more holistic. At Kangaroo Kids, we select themes that are of relevance and interest to children. The teaching methodology is a special blend of structure and freedom where teachers ‘follow the child’.

UNIQUE LRQ MODEL

The LRQ model is based on three major underpinnings:

Learner Centric Approach – Placing children at the Centre of the teaching-learning process is a vital underpinning of curriculum mapping.

Research Based Curriculum – Instructional design and subject matter experts in the field of Neuroscience maintain that as we enter the 21ST century, our learning pattern needs to be dynamic and evolving, incorporating the needs of the society and the learner.

The course structure is designed to ensure that learning is stress free, interactive and interesting.

To make sense of our world and foster learning capacity, we emphasises on Cross Curricular Linkage and project based learning. Such connections are essentially required for being able in making links between subjects. It also helps children to apply knowledge effectively in meaningful and purposeful contexts.

Primary Grade : 1 - 4

Billabong high International School Objective

Billabong high International School primary school programme helps engage students in the learning process in creative ways so that young learners can develop imagination. They are provided with opportunities to develop curiosity and creative expression.

Curriculum

Billabong high International School offers an ‘enriched curriculum’ – a curriculum which goes beyond the prescribed printed words of text books and the confines of the classroom to give a 360 degrees perspective of a known fact in any given subject. The result is analysing, experimenting, applying, evaluating.

The Billabong high International School curriculum, thus, reflects contemporary thinking about what students need to learn in order to lead successful and rewarding lives.

The ‘enriched curriculum’ strongly takes note of the Curriculum Frameworks of the different Boards and the cultural backdrop of the learner. The goals and aims of education being universal remain the same for the varying boards. What is predominantly different is their approach to education and assessments. The curriculum is perfectly aligned to the directives of various boards with reference to the aims and objectives, the base content, the structures of curriculum and the prescribed system of evaluation. This thought is the foundation for every stride that Billabong high International School takes while designing the learning experiences for its students.

The core curriculum at Billabong High includes the best of the boards, thus giving a competitive edge to our young children and the leaders of tomorrow. The ultimate goal  is to create new knowledge, fostering innovation and transmitting it to students. The curriculum is multi- dimensional in its approach

The learning objectives of the IGCSE curriculum are successfully combined with Billabong high International School philosophy of education that will value creative thoughts over  learning by heart. The teaching learning transaction of the curriculum takes place keeping in mind the Bloom’s Taxonomy, the Multiple Intelligence theory, the VARK Model, Neuroscience & Brain research theory, digital age & globalization & thematic learning.

The curriculum at Billabong high International School is flexible and upgraded with changes in the field of education on an ongoing basis. The prime focus of our curriculum is to innovate teaching-learning methodologies by developing paradigms that are conducive for students. For this, we emphasise on:

• Integrated Curriculum

• Interdisciplinary Approach

• Experiential Learning

• Research Work and

• Professional Talk.

Cross Curricular Linkage : Such connections are essentially required for being able to make links between subjects. It also helps children to apply their learning more effectively and embed skills and knowledge in meaningful and purposeful contexts. For example, mathematical data handling and interpretation effectively applied in geography and science; children can write better-framed answers in history, geography and science when they have learnt how to write explanations/short descriptions in English. Role-plays in language classrooms can act as effective tools once the children have been exposed to dramatics. Strong links such as these can undoubtedly enhance learning in all subjects and help children reflect on their learning. Aspects of learning - such as problem solving, reasoning, creative thinking -can be used across the curriculum

The course structure is designed to ensure that learning is stress free, interactive and interesting. It is transacted in such a way that the learners ascend from LOTS (Lower order thinking skills) to HOTS (Higher order thinking skills).

Experiential learning is the best method to involve active participation of students to experience scientific concepts. Therefore, learning by doing is focused in science classes.

Children are provided with situations where they apply their understanding of the concept and create role plays, stories, jingles. Children are also encouraged to explore through nature walks, connection with real life. Debates, quiz, presentations and other group activities are the regularly conducted in the class. Learners are also regularly updated with the recent scientific discoveries and explorations.

Middle School 5 - 8 & High School 9 - 12

The Middle School curriculum works towards grooming the learners to become responsible, confident and reflective individuals, who are self motivated to engage in innovative activities. This is achieved by making learning interesting and fun rather than a necessity. Pedagogy guided by neuroscience, bloom’s taxonomy, and multiple intelligences, make every moment of learning meaningful, joyous and most importantly effective. Learners are further encouraged to develop a global view through interdisciplinary learning and projects based on collaboration and teamwork.

Integrating technology in the classroom is much more than teaching basic computer skills and software in computer periods. We include technology across the curriculum to enhance the learning process. We believe in blended learning which contributes the best of both realms i.e. self-paced digital learning and facilitator-based classroom teaching.

We stepped into digital learning in the academic year 2013-2014 by integrating apps, games, video, movies in curriculum which promotes the 4Cs of 21st century learning skills i.e. collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity. The apps, media, web links are selectively chosen to strengthen the variety of skills along with concept clarity. The focus of integrating technology in curriculum for us is achieving learning goals and outcomes in a highly engaging manner, not the devices and apps.

Technology also changes the way teachers teach, offering educators effective ways to reach different types of learners and assess student understanding through multiple means. As technology is effectively integrated into the curriculum, our teachers grow into true facilitators. It helps to make the process of teaching-learning more engaging and rewarding. While using technology to fulfill 4Cs, we intentionally promote responsible and safe use of the internet to develop our young digital natives into global digital citizens.

Billabong High International  School, Santacruz, an IGCSE  affiliated school envisions to create an educational system of learning that  ignites  the  greatness in every child and helps them find their North Star and follow it..
