Beach clean-ups are a learning opportunity. There’s a major difference between seeing photos of plastic pollution online and witnessing it on an actual beach. It makes one think about the impact of the non-biodegradable stuff that we are using and how it’s affecting the environment.
At Billabong high International School Malad, we strongly believe that we can make a positive difference by spreading awareness and contributing to the cleanliness of the beach. Our School partnered with Mr. Afroz Shah's organization the recipient of The Champion of the Earth Award to take up beach cleanup drives as an initiative to save Marine life.
Our students took this initiative seriously and enthusiastically. We began this journey on October 12th, 2019 and have had almost 3-4 successful beach cleanup drives ever since. We aim to take this initiative further and create awareness among our families and societies so that we all can contribute in keeping our beaches and water bodies clean and not pollute it by throwing plastic and debris into them.
Becoming mindful of how we use and dispose of things is one way that we can start making this world and our oceans better for the next generation.
Students participated in the 2020 Tata Mumbai Marathon, one of the top 10 marathons in the world and the biggest in India, in association with the Nargis Dutt Foundation.
The Tata Mumbai Marathon was a platform for students to learn the skill of fundraising, understand the challenges faced by economically challenged families and what it is to run for a cause.
